Expanded Psychoeducational Testing Services

Drs. Margaret Sayers, Christina Fantauzzo, and Paige Novick-Kline now offer a full range of psychoeducational evaluations for individuals ages 2 ½ through adulthood. Expanded Therapy Services

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an empirically-based psychological treatment that uses mindfulness and acceptance strategies, as well as behavior change and commitment to assist clients with many types of psychological suffering by helping to increase psychological flexibility. This allows greater ability to be in the present moment and allows individuals to develop greater clarity about and to move towards their personal values through committed change. Art Therapy is an expressive therapy that utilizes the art making process to improve well-being and quality of life. Art Therapy can be used with people of all ages in individual, family, couples, and group therapy. The art making process can have many healing qualities. Art Therapy can be used to treat many different mental health and emotional problems such as depression and anxiety. It can also be used to help people who have experienced trauma, abuse, and loss. Art Therapy can assist people in developing conflict resolution, social skills, stress reduction, and impulse control. Art Therapists are trained to integrate the art making process with different modalities of counseling. Art Therapists use many different modalities of visual art including drawing, painting, media, sculpture, and other art forms. Continuing Education - Ruth Jampol, Ph.D. recently completed an externship in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) and is now using EFT with couples with a wide range of problems, including couples who have not benefited from previous treatment.

New Groups Forming

Men’s GroupScott Budge, Ph.D. will be starting a Men's Group on Monday evenings from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m. The proposed start date is October 19th. If you are interested or would more information about the group, call 215.355.2011, x213.

Bipolar Support Group – Loved ones of people with bipolar illness can often become depressed themselves. This ongoing group is offered to help them learn the importance of SELF-CARE. Subjects of discussion may include, for example, common feelings, such as: love, compassion, guilt, and anger, the grieving process, the value of education, keeping healthy boundaries, coping strategies, and resources. The group will meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 with a proposed start date of October 13, 2009. For more information, contact Peggy Ryan, M.A., L.P.C. at 215.355.2011 x401.

Multigenerational Women’s Group – No matter what change you’re encountering, you can find hope and choice. You can come through it stronger, wiser, and more confident. This group can provide emotional nurturance, affirmation, and information to lessen your anxiety as you collaborate with women of your own and/or other generations under the guidance of a professional. The eventual reward is that it can help you determine the best pathway(s) to move through your transition(s) productively. Some examples of women’s life transitions are: moms with children going off to college, becoming a parent, going through a divorce, re-entering school/college, changing careers, growing older , changing mother-child roles, becoming a grandparent, entering/ending relationships. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy Group – the Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy group is a nine session group which blends Eastern meditative practices with Western psychological perspectives. The focus during the nine sessions is to teach, practice, and apply skills for shifting the thoughts, feelings, and sensations associated with anxiety and depression. The group gives step by step guidelines through awareness exercises and cognitive interventions and is designed for individuals who have had experiences with relapse of anxiety and depression. Group Therapies – Several groups are accepting new members. These include Social Skills Training groups for children of all ages, group for Parents of Children with Bipolar Disorder, the Parent Training group, the High School and Young Adult groups, and the Women’s group.
